Updates from Region D
Big Bend Community College
Congratulations to Kathy Aldrich and Nancy Theis. Not only did we celebrate these veteran employees retirement after 45 years, they were also recognized for their years of service at the year end-celebration on June 7. Both received the Presidential Award for Meritorious Service. In true tradition of BBCC retirees, Kathy and Nancy were presented a personalized quilt handcrafted by a variety of talented BBCC colleagues.
Both of these ladies began their classified staff career at Big Bend Community College in 1974. They are loyal, trustworthy, and committed to the Mission, Vision, and Values of the college. Both have served on numerous committees over the years and shared their talent and skills in many ways. From teamwork or leadership, to sewing quilts for retirees, organizing and decorating for the many celebration events, or serving as a buddy while onboarding new employees.
Both have been known to say BBCC is their exetended family. Although they will miss seeing colleagues every day, they are excited for the journey and adventures they have planned.
Nancy worked in Business/Finance and Human Resources before transitioning in December 1995 to Maintenance and Operations. She is looking forward to spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, and finishing some of her own home projects.
Kathy worked for the Dean of Instruction, Educational Division and Word Service departments before transferring to the Library in January 1984. Kathy will continue enjoying traveling with her husband and friends on their motorcycle and finish some quilt projects of her own.

The 2018-2019 school year was full of change for Olympic College. The school year brought new leadership, new buildings on campus, new programs, and more. With our mission in mind and our students in our hearts, we persevered through the changes and came out hungry for more.
As a fresh employee, I joined the Classified Staff Development Committee (CSDC) to meet new people and give what I had to support the incredible staff at our college. As an Alumnus of the school, I thought I knew how hard these teams worked; I quickly discovered that I did not even know the half of it.
With the school year ending, it was time to celebrate the people who worked tirelessly through the changes. The CSDC hosts an annual event called The Classified Connection, which brings all classified staff together for a day of connecting, learning, and growing. I had the honor of serving on the committee through the planning process and was able to witness the small seeds of ideas flourish into fruition the day of the Connection.
We invited all of Olympic College’s classified and part-time staff to the Connection to join us at the Kitsap Golf and Country Club on June 21. We started with breakfast and icebreakers, heard from our speakers, ate a delicious lunch, and celebrated our staff. We had incredible speakers, including a few of our Administrative staff and motivational humorist Sharon Lacey. The speakers provided us with knowledge on topics like Financial Health, Leading from all Directions and How to be an Outlook-Ninja.
